Zoologist Thomas Henry Huxley was Charles Darwin’s right-hand man in the 19th-century struggle to get the doctrine of evolution accepted. In fact, he was the front man, Darwin himself being rather shy and retiring.
Incidentally, Huxley was also the man who coined the term “agnostic” – so much more sensible a word than “atheist”.
